09/10 SEASON MATCH REPORTS

NW&DFL vs. Oxford Mail Boys League 191109

The North Wilts Youth & Minor Football League under 15 representative team played their first match of the season against the Oxford Mail League at the Corinium Stadium, Cirencester.

After a very competitive game, Oxford were fortunate to emerge as victors with a 2-1 score line.

NW&DFL started the game brightly and a great tackle by the Oxford defender denied Jack Allen a chance after a fine piece of play from winger Alex Hammond. NW&DFL playing with the wind managed to create
more chances in the first half with Allen and Waldron going close. At the other end Oxford were restricted to long distance shots that keeper Guinness watched over his bar.

Oxford Mail Boys started brightly in the second half and took the lead after a short throw was flicked over the North Wilts defence and the Oxford striker rolled the ball through Guinness legs to make it 1-0. A
long distance effort shortly after found its way into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

NW&DFL continued to try and play their way back into the game and got back into it when Jack Allen turned in the box and found the bottom corner to make it 2-1. With 10 minutes left on the clock NW&DFL threw everything at the Oxford League and Waldron was denied by a great save with 2 minutes left.

Overall a good start considering the team had never trained or played together. The lads played some good football at times and deserved more than they got.
